Universal Pictures, one of Hollywood's "Big Six" film studios, is an American film studio owned by Comcast. It is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, and its production studios are located at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California. The corporate offices and distribution centers are situated in New York City. Universal Studios is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

The studio was founded in 1912 by a group of individuals including Carl Laemmle, a German entrepreneur pronounced as "LEM-lee". Other co-founders include Mark Dintenfass, Charles O. Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, Robert H. Cochrane, and Jules Brulatour.

Universal Studios holds the record for six of its films, including Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), Despicable Me 2 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), and Jurassic World (2015). These films, especially those directed by Steven Spielberg, became the highest-grossing films at the time of their initial release.

NBCUniversal, a Comcast Corporation subsidiary, owns and operates various news and entertainment television networks. It also has a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, world-renowned theme parks, and a premium ad-supported streaming service.
